NEW YORK, January 30th, 2007—Brides New York editors have assembled the top five spots in Long Island to pop the question, as well as the top two places to propose in both Brooklyn and Queens. The Spring/Summer 2007 issue, which will be on stands until late Spring, is one of sixteen local Brides magazines from Condé Nast Bridal Media.

Long Island’s Top Five Proposal Hot Spots

1. The Montauk Point Lighthouse: this 200-year-old lighthouse, the first to be built in New York State, sits at the eastern tip of Long Island, a postcard-worthy scene. Beyond the rocky shores, you can see Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Block Island.

2. Old Bethpage Village: to transport back to a simpler time, head to this collection of restored 19th century buildings. Set on a massive farm, the village's historical authenticity and tranquility are unparalleled.

3. Clark Botanic Gardens: though you can't go wrong no matter where you propose in the North Hempstead gardens, this wooden gazebo is a hidden treasure. It's tucked away a bit from the pathway in the dense forest, but it’s worth the extra effort to find it.

4. Old Westbury Gardens: after a tour of the Westbury House, a turn-of-the-century mansion complete with chandeliers, grand staircases, and painted ceiling murals, take a stroll through the 88-acres of formal English gardens. Proposal opportunities are plentiful: Try a spot alongside one of the lakes or the quaint thatched cottage.

5. Corey Creek Vineyards: the tasting room, an outdoor deck in a rustic but elegant barn, overlooks a huge portion of the gorgeous Southold vineyard. As your tasting comes to a close, pop the question, then pop open another bottle.

Brooklyn’s Top Two Proposal Hot Spots

1. Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park, DUMBO: sitting on the dramatic steps down to the rock- and shell-covered “beach” of the East River, you'll have a skyline view as close to perfect as possible without the use of special effects.

2. “Boulder Bridge” Rustic Shelter, Prospect Park: this completely secluded, au natural log gazebo is perched above Prospect Park's Ravine. There are a few other rustic shelters inside the park, but there’s something appealing about this one built without the use of a single nail.

Queens’ Top Two Proposal Hot Spots

1. Astoria Park, Queens: have a picnic on the expansive grassy lawn right on the East River, underneath the Triborough and Hell Gate bridges. Sporty types can take a romantic jog together through the park’s trails or around the tracks.

2. P.S. 1 Art Center MoMA, Long Island City: propose in the “Meeting”room, a square space with a large skylight and artificial light that’s designed to intensify the colors of the sky at sunset.
